Happy New Year!

DOUBLE SMOKED HAM RECIPE:

Double Smoked Ham is a holiday favorite. Here are easy cooking instructions: put the ham in a roaster; pour a can of 7-UP over the ham; cover the ham; then bake 10 minutes per pound of ham at 325-degrees. This ham is a fully cooked product, so all you need to do is heat it thoroughly. During the last 15 minutes of baking time, put honey, orange marmalade and brown sugar on top of the ham and let it melt in to the ham.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Rate That Wine Tasting Results from October:  Plunger Head Cabernet was our favorite! The aromas show dark blackberry fruit, dried fig, black raspberry, earthy Dry Creek terroir notes, and a touch of roasted porcini mushrooms. Your first sip starts with rich blackberry jam, dried blueberry, milk chocolate, deep toasted coconut, black walnut, and finishing with fresh cranberry, ripe boysenberry, hints of vanilla and fire toasted dill from aging in American oak barrels.

Boneshaker Zinfandel:  This limited production Zinfandel is absolutely ZINCREDIBLE! Loaded with deep black and red plum flavors, with notes of sweet cocoa and raspberries; full-bodied and quite intense on the finish.  The label design is a fun addition to any Halloween party!

Rate That Wine Tasting Results from September:  We were able to taste test a few wines we don’t normally carry.  Thank you for helping us decide which ones to bring in!

Sweet Baby White: Sweet and Tasty. We though this would be a great wine for New Year’s Eve!  We’re hoping to have this in by Thanksgiving.
Sweet Baby Red: This is refreshing and full flavor like a dense red velvet cake.  Handpicked moscato grapes from the hillside of Italy are used.
CS Red blend: This was the favorite of the night!  We’re hoping to have it in January.

Rate That Wine Tasting Results from August:

Coppo Moscato d’Asti: Sweet, Bubbly and Tasty.

Tess Red Blend: This Napa Valley blend is recommended to be served cold.  Our tasters decided it was better served room temperature.

Surf & Swim Chardonnay: This wine was inspired by California Beach Culture.  Our tasters rated it as light with a citrusy finish.  This is a great summer wine!

Happy 4th of July!

In honor of National Hot Dog Month, what better recipe to share than one for a Chicago Dog!

Recipe:

Needed ingredients: 4 Holmen Locker Hot Dogs, 4 hot dog buns with poppyseeds, 1 small onion, 3-4 teaspoons sweet pickle relish, 1 cold-pack kosher dill pickle, 1 small tomato sliced into julienne strips, 4-8 pickled sport bell peppers, dusseldorf-style brown mustard, celery seed, poppy seed and beer.

Directions: Simmer the hot dogs in beer or water for approximately 20 minutes.  Warm buns until slightly warm and soft.  Insert hot dogs.  Add mustard to taste; top with dill spear, relish, onion, tomato and 1-2 sport peppers.  Sprinkle with celery salt and poppy seeds.

Serve and enjoy!  *Jalapeño peppers may be substituted for sport peppers.

Happy birthday Holmen Locker and Meat Market!

Happy Birthday to us!  June marks the 71st Anniversary of the Holmen Locker and Meat Market.  The Holmen Locker got its start in 1944 as a meat processing plant for local farmers.   In 1996 we (Scott and Lauri) purchased the Holmen Locker. We completed the retail area in 2004.

JUNE MEAT SPECIAL:  Purchase a Whole Ribeye Loin or New York Strip Loin for only $7.99/lb.  Please call 608-526-3112 to order.  To cut into steaks: freeze for about 20 minutes; just enough to firm the meat.  Cut with a sharp knife and freeze.

Not Your Father’s Root Beer: Have you had a chance to try this beer yet? This unique creation comes from Illinois’ Small Town Brewery.  It is created with a unique blend of spices that make it taste literally just like a root beer. Not a new brew, this is just something refreshing and unique. Trust us, at 5.9% ABV this isn’t your average root beer!

  •  Blanc de Bleu:is a premium California chardonnay with an added hint of Blueberries.  It is a delicate sparkling wine reserved for memorable celebrations. This beautiful color would be great for gender reveal parties, baby showers or wedding showers.
  • New Beers are arriving daily!

BEER PAIRING:  Tinder Rauchbier Smoked Lager pairs perfectly with a burger!  This lager is from Uinta Brewing in Salt Lake City, UT.  Tinder is a German-style Rauchbier (Smoked Beer) that kindles moderate malty sweetness and robust smokiness. Brewed with Bamberg beechwood-smoked malt, this medium-bodied lager ignites distinct campfire smoke flavors and aroma.

THE STATE INSPECTED DIFFERENCE

Holmen Locker and Meat Market is a State inspected HAACP compliant meat processing facility with a state inspector on premise every day. The inspector checks to be sure all processing is done according to State of Wisconsin rules and regulations, so  all food is safe for the consumer. HAACP compliance requires strict adherence to a long list of food handling procedures to ensure consumer safety.
